The Golden Star
A Mystic Crescendo in Twelve Visions, or A Book for Initiates.
by Jean Michaud, PhD.
Described as “A Book for Initiates,” this work expounds the most advanced occult teachings, yet in such a fascinating manner as to hold and extend the interest of the novice. The author divides his mystic crescendo into twelve divisions which are typified not merely as levels of consciousness but also as states of matter above and below the level of normal intelligence.
The book begins with two Egyptian pilgrims, Ma-u and Ma-uti, watching a glorious sunset: “At one unforgettable moment the sun sent out five purple rays from between the massed clouds, which like a hand of benediction overspread the pair; whilst a path of molten gold stretched from Ra to them, as if inviting them to stride along that road to glory under His protecting hand. An invitation and Initiation into the Mysteries.”
With the arrival of Neteru-Hem, “A messenger from the Divine,” the two seekers begin a spiritual journey, which is quite unlike anything else in Occult literature. “I can show you the mysteries that will give you understanding of that which is inexplicable to most, and I will light within you a lamp that can cast its rays in all that is yet dark, and bring a gleam of Truth and comfort unto the gloomy of heart,” the Messenger announces.
Descending first into the “Domains of Night,” Ma-u and Ma-uti embark on a quest for knowledge under the guiding hands of Neteru-Hem. Each of the twelve chapters is prefaced by an inspired poem and associated with a particular precious stone. During their remarkable journey (which is also a series of Initiations), the two pilgrims are taught about the real nature of matter and spirit, electricity, atoms, energy and the true constitution of Man and the Universe. The many subjects covered include the inhabitants of the elemental kingdoms, psychism, clairvoyance, witchcraft, magic, spiritualism, occult symbolism, creation, evolution, cosmic consciousness and the hierarchy of spiritual beings who rule the universe under God.
Along the way, Ma-u and Ma-uti encounter scenes of terrifying horror, transcendent beauty and spiritual and material beings of all kinds—both good and bad, leading in the end to the very throne of God and an apocalypse of glory which it is impossible to describe in this short synopsis. To sum up, this is truly “a book for initiates”—a refreshing refuge of peace and joy, and a radiant star of hope in this age of threatening darkness.
About the Aula Lucis J. Michaud Archive
The J. Michaud Archive exists to preserve, publish, and distribute the writings of Jean Michaud (1884-1961), whose works are — each in their own way — masterpieces of occult and mystical literature. And yet, because they have long been out of print and copies of the originals are scarce (and now virtually unobtainable at any price) they remain almost entirely unknown and forgotten. For these reasons, Aula Lucis have collaborated with The Nova UMA Press to once more make these works available to all who may benefit from them.
Those who wish to learn more about this extraordinary artist, seer and mystic are invited to read the essay written for the J. Michaud Archive by Ian S. Major: The Eagle of the Sun: The Life and Works of Jean Michaud

About the Author
The late Jean Michaud (1884-1961) was a musician, composer, occultist and author who had a great passion for Rosicrucian and esoteric studies, and who was for a time a friend of Aleister Crowley's. He was also the founder and long-time head of the Order of the Hidden Masters (OHM), a highly-secretive occult fraternity based in London.
